Pitlochry is a Perthshire burgh, 27.1 miles (43.6km) north of the city of Perth, with a population of 2,776. It is a Victorian town - a visit by Queen Victorian herself helped to attract the first tourists to the area - and it remains a popular visitor destination today.
The town is bypassed by the main A9 route to Inverness and a rail link is provided via Pitlochry station on the Highland Main Line. Nearby towns and villages include Moulin, Tulliemet, Dalguise and Dunkeld.
The town is famous for the Pitlochry Dam & Fish ladder on the River Tummel, where you can view salmon jumping upstream during the breeding season. The Falls of Bruar, Ben Vrackie and Loch Faskally are all on your doorstep to explore and The Enchanted Forest at Faskally Wood is a unique way to experience the local woodlands, with a magical sound and light show on offer every autumn. The Festival Theatre hosts music and theatre talent and you can find plush accommodation options around, such as at Atholl Palace and Fonab Castle.
