Local Update – Helensburgh

Helensburgh is an easy commute to Glasgow and a picturesque historic town with a great community. Our local office is as busy as ever, with families returning from their annual holidays and back to a routine with school start next week. Here are a few highlights of Helensburgh life – and its property market:

Historic Helensburgh church to undergo £300k revamp

A historic Helensburgh church is undergoing a major restoration after being battered by wind and rain. The early Victorian church has fallen foul of bad weather, with the tower and belfry in need of repair and stonework needing repointed. There is also some rot and damaged roof slates and work will also be carried out on gutters, downpipes and drains.
The revamp is being funded by a £190,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland, with the Colquhoun Square church itself contributing a further £100,000 from funds. Read more on this story here.

School walks for Malawi

Pupils at Colgrain Primary School recently took part in a special event to raise money for an organisation set up to support children in Malawi.

Every boy and girl, from the pre-5 unit right up to P7, walked a mile round an ‘African village’ set up in the school grounds to raise cash for the Nora Docherty Foundation, which has built schools and supports young people in the country’s Dedza region. Read more on this story here.
