Each August, Glasgow is transformed into a global hotspot of trad music fans, as Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival takes place. The most important highlight on any piping fan’s calendar, tens of thousands of people come to the city from across the globe for either short or long stays. Whether visitors rent apartments for the week of the festival (8-14 August) or a flat for the month of August, there’s plenty of accommodation options and even more choice of events throughout the festival week!
Piping Live! is a week-long celebration of bagpipes and traditional music, taking place between 8 – 14 August. It brings over 50,000 music fans to Glasgow and sees over 200 events, with over 8,000 performers, take place in various venues across the city. Each event will showcase the world’s most talented musicians in modern trad music, with this year’s festival being headlined by the globally-famous Red Hot Chilli Pipers (Saturday 13th, O2 ABC). Other highlight events include: The Masters Solo Piping Competition, International Quartet Competition 2016, Piping Live! 2016 Presents A Summer Session with Glasgow Gin Club and Ross Ainslie, Ali Hutton and Friends. The Masters Solo Piping Competition – March, Strathspey and Reel
The best competing pipers of this generation return to the stage at The National Piping Centre as they take part in the annual Masters Solo Piping Competition. The overall winner of this competition qualifies for the Glenfiddich Solo Piping Championship in October, so you can expect to see the best of the best on show!

International Quartet Competition 2016
This Piping Live! staple returns for 2016, to showcase the best in international Pipe Bands, just days before they take to Glasgow Green for the Worlds.
Eight pipe bands from across the globe will send 4 of their pipers to compete in this head to head challenge, as 10 hidden judges decide who will take home the title in this must see event leading up to the World Pipe Band Championships the following weekend.

Piping Live! 2016 Presents A Summer Session with Glasgow Gin Club
Let the Gin Begin! Join Glasgow Gin Club on Thursday 11 August in the Performance Tent in George Square for an exclusive event. Come and try some of Scotland’s finest craft-stilled gins with accompanying brand ambassadors on hand to share their expertise and fun facts.
Each guest will receive 4 gin and tonics, all served with the perfect garnish and gin knowledge direct from each Ambassador, so you can taste the finest Scotland has to offer, and improve your gin knowledge.

Jigs, Muneiras and other Magical Melodies
This fantastic concert will see two of the best piping acts around take to the stage with a distinctly Scottish/Spanish flavour. Anxo Lorenzo brings his trio from Galicia to tear up the stage with his Gaita, as they take you on a whirlwind through Spain and beyond.
Then one of the most exciting bands on the Scottish folk scene make their return to Piping Live! Rura are back where it all started for them, as they present tracks their 2nd album, 2015’s “Despite the Dark”.

After World’s Shindig feat. Red Hot Chilli Pipers
The Chillis are back at Piping Live! We are delighted to announce that the Red Hot Chilli Pipers will tear up the stage of the stage of the o2 ABC for the After World’s Shindig 2016. Come along for a fantastic night of Bagrock as they present their exciting brand of piping music fusing traditional Scottish music with rock and pop classics. Wherever you are, you are sure to have felt the Chilli Heat… now its time to come closer to the fire at the After World’s Shindig 2016!

Ross Ainslie, Ali Hutton and Friends
Wrapping up Piping Live! 2016 in style, this closing concert promises to be special. Following on from the Gordon Duncan Memorial Competition, and commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Gordon’s passing, we bring you two of the best musicians who have taken on his legacy – Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton. Set to release a new album during Piping Live!, these two will present their new tunes, some of Gordon’s favourites and more as they are joined on stage by some of their friends from the Treacherous Orchestra and beyond.
They will present a show full of fun, fast and furious music and something a little bit special with the help of some well-known friends.
