Good News for Glasgow Harbour Residents

Following recent reports that residents of flats in the Glasgow Harbour development were faced with a bill of up to £10m to replace cladding similar to that which contributed to the blaze at Grenfell Tower, London, developer Taylor Wimpey has now agreed to pay this cost.

Taylor Wimpey will replace the aluminium composite material cladding in around 300 properties within the Glasgow Harbour development after residents were facing a bill of around £30,000 each, following confirmation that the cladding was not flame retardant.

Following the fire at Grenfell Tower, a national fire safety review of tall buidings was established. The Scottish government’s fire safety review confirmed the presence of the material.

Although the cladding met the technical standards at the time of construction, Taylor Wimpey has now agreed that it needs to be replaced and to cover the cost of these works. This will bring the external wall system in line with current fire safety requirements.
