Edinburgh is a wonderful place to be if your hobbies include eating fine food and drinking exceptional wine. There’s nowhere better to be than in one of Edinburgh’s Michelin starred restaurants. For a small city to have several acclaimed eateries is some achievement! Two of the restaurants are located in Leith, which has become a real hotspot for foodies.
Take a look at Edinburgh’s Michelin Starred restaurants below, and remember to book well in advance. It’s also worth noting that the lunchtime menu is often exceptional value – although you might want to skip breakfast!
The Kitchin
Owned and run by Tom Kitchen, a familiar face on Masterchef, The Kitchin has been established for over 12 years and has enjoyed Michelin status for 11 of those. Although the name Tom Kitchin is often the draw for many diners, the exceptional food is what keeps diners coming back. The menu is unfussy and there are no clever or unusual ingredients, just good honest fare. The restaurant has an extensive wine cellar so wine pairing is a must.
Located within The Balmoral on Princes Street, this is one of the highest-ranking restaurants in Edinburgh. With a classic, elegant interior with a formal dining room, this is the ideal romantic destination in which to wine and dine your loved one. It has an innovative menu blending Scottish and French cuisine and has an extensive wine list offering classic and new world vintages.
Another restaurant located in Leith, Martin Wishart has been established for nearly 20 years and has built up and incredible reputation in that time. It offers an exquisite six or even an eight-course tasting menu with wine pairing optional. It caters to a wide audience with fish-only and vegetarian options.
Situated in a refurbished Georgian townhouse designed by architect Thomas Playfair, 21212 is an eatery with four, beautifully designed bedrooms, each with a dedicated lounge area. The rooms are on the two upper levels of the house and command views over the gardens to the rear, or the City to the front. In the restaurant, tables are positioned with views of the glass-entry to the kitchen, and diners can watch the chefs prepare each course. With a whimsical and creative menu, the name 21212 comes from its starters, mains and dessert interspersed with soup and cheese between courses.
