Glasgow Market Update – Scottish Properties Sold the Fastest and February was the Busiest Month
It’s good news for homeowners in Scotland, as top property listing site Rightmove found that properties sold faster here than anywhere else in the UK last year, as well as Glasgow being in the top 5 searched UK locations for house hunters.
Scottish homes selling fast
As part of their annual review for 2018, properties in Scotland sold the fastest compared to other areas across the country. Livingston, specifically, was the place where homes where listed and sold in record time, with average property sale transactions taking just 25 days to complete, compared to the national UK average of 61 days.
The top ten fastest selling locations is dominated by Scottish cities and towns, including Glasgow (32 days), Edinburgh (30 days), Larbert (32 days), Glenrothes (32 days), Bathgate (34 days) and Stirling (36 days). It makes sense that most of these towns are in sought-after areas in the central belt, all offering great transport links and handy commuter distances, plus being near to open green space whilst having all necessary amenities on your doorstep. What’s more, the Scottish housing market has the affordability factor, keeping the sector healthy with activity, in contrast to some areas down south facing more of a challenge, that have experienced stagnation and unsustainable price rises.
Glasgow popular with house hunters
Local to us, it’s great to hear reports (as well as witnessing first hand in our offices) that Glasgow is becoming an increasingly popular location to move to for people from all over the UK. Though outside Rightmove’s top ten popular locations in 2017, Glasgow has shot to number 4 for 2018 – just behind Edinburgh as the fourth most searched location on the website last year! This is great news for sellers in the city, keeping in mind that on its peak day for search traffic last year – Feb 19th2018 – the website had page views that exceed 40 million! That’s a lot of interested buyers.
