Nothing puts us in a good mood quite like Christmas – the pretty lights, delicious smells and festive tunes are just the things we need to get us through the cold, dark days of winter. In recent years the UK has started to take Christmas inspiration from Germany, with the rise of Christmas Markets. You can discover them right here in Glasgow and the west this Christmas.
Whether it’s to buy presents, eat mince pies, ice skate or drink mulled wine, a visit to the Christmas markets will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit.
George Square Christmas Market, Glasgow
This is the main Christmas Market in the city centre and always a family favourite. Discover lots of great stalls with a background of the fabulous George Square Christmas Lights. Funfair rides and a great selection of food are on offer, you can even sit back and soak up the festival atmosphere and with some mulled wine.
Runs from Saturday 9th November to 29th December. 10am to 10pm.
St Enochs Centre Christmas Market, Glasgow
Another family favourite in Glasgow City Centre. Lots of stalls selling unique gift ideas and a great choice of food and drink on offer. Again there is an outdoor bar to let you sit back and take some time out from the festive hustle and bustle.
Runs from Saturday 9th November to Sunday 22nd December. 9am to 10pm.
Christmas Market – East Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh
Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh, the traditional Christmas Market offers something for everyone! You’ll find stalls selling everything from local and bespoke products and gifts to tasty treats, visiting the market is a must see at Christmas. So pop along and soak up the festive atmosphere!
Runs from 16th November to 4th January 2020. Open 10am to 10pm.
Johnnie Walker Bothy Bar, Edinburgh
The Johnnie Walker Bothy Bar will open its doors this winter to immerse locals and visitors to Edinburgh’s Christmas into the world of whisky. Situated across a two-floor bar on the Mound, the bothy will serve a variety of whisky cocktails and hot toddies to surprise and delight, showcasing the unique flavours from the four corners of Scotland that go into creating the Johnnie Walker blend.

Paisley Winterfest
This fabulous event in Paisley Town Centre this year features Christmas food and drink, arts and crafts, gifts and lots more. You can buy delicious food and relax with a a drink while you soak up the festive atmosphere. If you are feeling more adventurous you can enjoy the ice rink or fair ground rides.
Runs until 23rd to 30th December.
Loch Lomond Shores Festive Markets
This festive markets has the added bonus if being in a beautiful location. Browse the stalls filled with crafts, gins and lots of local produce. Make a day of it and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
From 10am until 4pm Saturday and Sunday until December 22nd.
Perth’s International Christmas Market
This globally-minded market transforms Perth’s High Street into a winter wonderland lined with cosy wooden stalls housing a whole range of goods. It all begins with the big light switch-on, complete with celebrity guests and a sky-scorching fireworks display.
Later on, the market plays host to a Festive Feast featuring a fully-edible map of Perth and Kinross, the annual Great Perthshire Soup Competition, and the traditional bakers parade.
Then there is the small matter of the Gin & Chocolate Festival…
