Bathroom Trends

Whether you’re prepping your home to sell it for a maximum price or want to make it the best it can be a stylish bathroom can make a huge difference. After all, the whole family uses the room at least twice a day, and it’s the first room we visit when we wake up. It’s the most private space in the house and where you should be able to find your sanctuary.

Bathroom design is continually evolving and, in recent years, has become more design-led. Sustainability and eco-materials used with natural elements are high on the list this year.

So what are the bathroom trends for this year to give your bathroom the wow factor while helping it stay functional?

Tiles

Instead of gloss tiles, matt tiles are on-trend for this year. They are more tactile, and by ditching the high gloss, you’ll have a more structured texture on your walls and splashback. Tactile surfaces are luxurious, so consider a stone, terracotta, or matt porcelain.

Colour drench

Colour drenching is when you use one colour for the walls, ceiling, door frames and door to contrast your tiles, wallpaper and wall panelling. This is a confident move, but it can impact the décor as your colour combinations have no breaks or interruptions. Choose a relaxing neutral tone to complement a natural view or materials or a vibrant, primary solid colour complementing a white bathroom suite.

Clinical white has taken a back seat as warmer natural tones bring a sense of well-being and calm to a room. Lilac is an emerging shade that works well with brass, chrome or matt accessories.

A bathroom for two

If you have the space, a double vanity can appeal to families and couples who need to maximise time and get to work on time. Double vanities are increasingly popular with aesthetic and functional benefits. It can also create a focal point in the bathroom and give a harmonious feel to the room.

Coloured suites and worktops

Since the 1980s, coloured bathroom suites have been given a bad rap, but this can be an excellent way to add colour to your bathroom and give it a retro look – but if you’re not brave enough, you could have coloured worktops to introduce colour. Solid composite worktops is a high-performance products available in a range of colours. Made from a raw blend of natural materials, they are beautiful and functional.

Traditional styling

Classic styles are increasingly popular, especially with luxurious materials such as brass, glass and marble. Colours are moving away from grey to beige neutrals paired with bold blues and greens.

Metallics

Brassware, along with brass, is a popular choice as we move away from chrome. Brushed brass mirrors, trims and taps are one of the trends this year; attention to detail in the bathroom is just as significant as in the kitchen. Brass and copper look beautiful, with dark greens and blues helping to make certain features stand out. Aged brass has been a new design trend over the last few years, as it adds instant warmth and a contrast to tiled bathrooms and marble worktops. Brass takes on a bronzed look with variations achieved over time and with continued use.

Curved and soft lines

Smooth curves have replaced hard straight lines – with less angular features; you can introduce this with curved baths, basins and toilet units. This gives the appearance of a calmer, more welcoming space.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a continuing trend that looks set to stay. We are all more mindful of how much we waste in our homes and are conscious that we need to take care of the environment. Use eco-friendly materials where possible and consider handmade items which will stand the test of time and give your bathroom unique features.
