Shawlands is popular district in the southside of Glasgow, located less than two miles south of the RIver Clyde, with a population of approx 8,000 people. Shawlands Academy which has just undergone extensive renovation and now has a new Glasgow Specialist Language Centre.
Shawlands has excellent transport links with railway stations at Shawlands, Pollokshaws East and Crossmyloof. There is regular bus service into Glasgow City Centre.
Battlefield is a district in Glasgow, situated south of the River Clyde. The area includes the landmark of Glasgow's old Victoria Infirmary which is in the process of being converted into a new development. There is also Glasgow Clyde College, Langside Library and Queens Park.
The Southside Fringe is an annual event and the Farmers Market, which is held every two weeks, is very popular.
Langside is a popular leafy conservation area of the Southside.
There is good road and rail links with trains departing at Langside Train Station on a regular basis into Glasgow City Centre.
Over the last couple of years there has been conversion of the old Rawcliffe Estate into an sought after estate for residents. Church on the Hill and the Ivory Hotel remain popular favourites for Food and Drink.
Strathbungo is a beautiful conservation area and is on one of the main arteries of Pollokshaws Road which is just south from the City Centre.
There are many popular restaurants including The Bungo and The Mulberry. The local residents in the area often have local events including Bungo at the Bells and Bungo in the Back Lanes.
Pollokshields has a population of 21,299 and is another beautiful Victorian conservation area in the South side of Glasgow. Shawlands Academy and Hutcheson Grammar School - both highly praised schools are in the area.
There are three functioning railway stations in Pollokshields - Maxwell Park, Pollokshields East and Polloksheilds West Train Stations and easy links to M77, M8 and M74.
